The proposal sits at the intersection of the Palisades Glacier Axis and the Big Pine Creek Route, as a timber pavilion comprising a Communal Building and a Bunkhouse articulated by a courtyard and complemented by a fishing pavilion near the pond area.
The Communal Building acts as a shelter lying between crossroads and leading to various walking routes. It is rotated 30 degrees south to catch the best day and sunlight. It features a large social room, dining area, communal kitchen and a stone structure that houses a grand fireplace as well as a stair to the viewing platform and staff accommodation. The building also houses a biomass boiler and storage area as well as an outdoor equipment storage space on a basement level. The bunkhouse comprises 60 sleeping spaces, shower rooms, toilets block and an area for biomass drying. Also a water storage tank, ski and outdoor storage area, and washing and drying area below.
The various walking routes are accompanied by a series of low stone walls and wooden elements that root the building in its natural context, thus blurring the notion of boundary and allowing the building to integrate sculpturally into the landscape, challenging the perception of where the building ends and where the landscape starts.
